Hey folks, Bicycle Tasmania are holding a media launch tomorrow (Thursday Jan 19) and need you there!  It’s at Parliament House at 12:30, so dress up and ride down. They’ll be launching their facilities development campaign and gifting bikes to parliament (pollies on bikes is a good thing). The more people there, the better. Newtown “Velodrome”

From Rob:

YOUR ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED THIS FRIDAY 14TH OCTOBER, PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT WHAT IS WELL OVERDUE….

Ok, game on.

Lucked out this morning and met up with Helen Burnett at the Ride to work day. She has agreed to meet us at the Newtown Bike track at 5.30pm on Friday 14th.

We need to put on a good show. It will be a balmy day for track riding (19°C), so please encourage everybody you know who is into track riding to attend track training this Friday.

Also, if you have any ideas for how the track could be improved, now is your chance. The issues that have already been indicated to the Deputy Lord Mayor are:

1. The Hobart Bike Track requires renovation in terms of its surface, geometry and markings. The last work undertaken by the City of Hobart was reputedly over 20 years ago.

2. Current access for cyclists is limited to one night per week (Friday evening). As this is the only track available in Southern Tasmania, we request greater access be given to cyclists such as increasing its availability during Summer track season on Monday or Wednesday nights.

3. A small secure room and access be provided within or adjacent to the “grandstand” to store cycle racing related gear (eg timing systems, signs, etc).

I hope to see you all and many others there on Friday.
